LOVE IS LOVE
When I first moved back to Australia in March 2016 (after having lived in the UK for nearly 20 years) I didn't realise that Same Sex Marriage was NOT legal in Australia. When I first discovered this I was completely and utterly gobsmacked. I had a proper 'Wait. What??' moment. Seriously?? But it was legal in the UK! One of the more conservative countries out there. How could Australia not.
When the result of the Plebiscite ( for the legalisation of SSM) came back a Yes, all 3 of my children excitedly came home from school saying 'Did you hear Mum - it's a yes! Yes!!' Yes, it was a yes, but I also then had to explain that although it came back a yes, the Government still has to pass it and they could still say no. That's when my children had a 'Wait. What??' moment. One of my daughter's then proceeded to process this info and came back with,
'But if they say no, that would be like saying I can't marry a boy if I wanted to' - smart kid that!
Anyway, as we should all know by know, the Australian Government did us proud, finally, and Same Sex Marriage was passed and would be legal from the 8th January 2018. The first legal Australian SSM wedding occurred at the strike of midnight on the 7th January 2018.
So it got me thinking about the wedding industry in general. And possibly the under-representation of certain weddings (not just weddings with a bride + bride or groom + groom) - that are no less beautiful, emotive, full of love, laughter and tears - but just don't seem to appear on Wedding blogs. And I'm not just talking about gender or race - I'm talking all shapes, sizes, ethnicity - the works.
And that's basically what this New Wave Wedding Blog is all about.
The People.
And Love bloody well is Love - no matter what shape, age or colour you are.
